Meet The Producer
Steve Franklin
My musical taste is and has always been pretty mixed, but my main music era is anything from the 50s to the mid 90s.
I’m very much into all aircraft and was going to get my pilot’s license last year but then a few things happened which kept me on the ground!
I have a community interest company called ‘Ending Loneliness’ which does its best to help those who live with loneliness.
I used to be a freelance cameraman, filming mainly outside broadcast events. I was a stage camera operator and I’ve been on stage with countless artists such as The Specials, The Beat, Gerri Halliwell, Sugarbabes, Atomic Kitten, McFly, Toni Christie, Jimmy Osmond & the CBSO.
Music and synthesizers are my main passion in life (apart from my wife of course), and my last count was 17 synths. Not as many as Vince Clarke, but I’m getting there!
Apart from DMC releases, my only commercial release was ‘My Destiny’ by Elliot Kennedy which I’m proud of.
For my end of year project at college I created a Sci-Fi radio play similar to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. I sent it to Jeff Wayne and he phoned me at home to tell me how much he enjoyed it which was amazing. We chatted for well over an hour.
Fave mixes…
PETER GABRIEL ‘GAMES WITHOUT FRONTIERS’ (PLEASURE AND PAIN REMIX)
P1980 Charisma
Remixed By MAIK SCHAFER
DMC RETRO CHART MONSTERJAM THE EIGHTIES VOL.2 – DJ Ivan Santana
What got you into mixing?
I’ve always wanted to put my own ’stamp’ on one of my favourite songs. My friend was a megamixer for DMC and he gave me the contact details to send my stuff.
Influences…
Giorgio Moroder, Pet Shop Boys, Trevor Horn, Shep Pettibone, Bobby Orlando and many other 80s artists & producers.
Who do you admire?
So many people, but Trevor Horn is such a talented producer. I‘d love to sit and chat with him over a cup of tea and a bourbon biscuit!
Skills etc…
Alongside producing music, I create and produce virtual instruments. I also have worked with photo & video in a professional capacity.
